Top Wholesale and Retail Trade companies in Italy by revenue

Consumer confidence took a hit in Italy during 2016 thanks to a dramatic change in government, and the country looked very like it was on the brink of recession as vital political and economic reforms were stopped in their tracks. At the same time many retailers brought in powerful promotional activity to drive traffic and boost sales volume. As a result, margins plummeted.
'Fast fashion' giant Primark opened its first Italian shop in the hugely popular Arese shopping mall, and in 2017 the nation saw a flurry of new shopping malls being built, many owned by companies abroad. They helped local economies grow, and encouraged more international players to enter the Italian retail market.

At the same time Aldi, WHSmith and the French grocery chain Gran Frais headed Italy-wards. And while retail and wholesale distribution in Italy remains centred on small, family-operated stores, larger outlets like supermarkets and department stores are on the up. It's good to know the retail sales value in Italy is predicted to increase from around 460 billion Euros in 2017 to around roughly 471 billion Euros by the end of 2018.
