Because many Italians remain under-insured, the country's insurance sector is considered a growth market. In recent times important reforms to Italian law have been made to the medical sector, namely the so-called Legge Gelli-Bianco and the compulsory professional indemnity Competition Law 124, both in 2017. Italian lawyers have also been busy implementing Directive 2016/97/EU on insurance distribution, the Insurance Distribution Directive.
The nation's economic recovery is gaining speed and momentum, supported by strong domestic demand and healthy GDP growth in 2017, up 1.5% on 2016. This improved outlook means higher consumption and investment, which in turn benefits the country's financial services industry.
2017 saw the precautionary recapitalisation of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena. At the same time the Banca Popolare di Vicenza and Veneto Banca liquidated. Now these big risks have been removed, the perception of the financial market is more positive and private sector lending has increased. April 2018 reveals total loans to households and firms growing about 3% per year.

Their 3,330 or so staff helped generate an eye-watering revenue of 877,506,218.00 Euros in 2017. Atradius Credit Insurance N.V landed a massive 2017 revenue of 284,955,000.00 Euros, and Sirca Holdings managed to make 97,377,749.00 Euros revenue in 2017.
